New Bitmain Antminer S21 XP Hyd 473T, S21 XP IMM 300T/380T, and S21 XP 270T Bitcoin ASIC Miner First Look and Quick Thoughts

BITMAIN has launched its latest Bitcoin mining machines, including the Antminer S21 XP Hyd, which boasts a hydro-cooled design, a 473 TH/s hashrate, and an impressive energy efficiency of 12 J/T.

Other new models include the S21 XP Immersion 300T with 13.5 J/T, Overclocking Mode 380T with 15J/T and the S21 270T, also at 13.5 J/T. These machines are set to start shipping in late 2024 and were unveiled at the WDMS 2024 in Las Vegas.

Let’s analyze the daily revenue of these machines. According to data from Asicminervalue, with an electricity cost of $0.06/kWh and the current Bitcoin price of $65,000, the Antminer S21 XP Hyd 473T can generate approximately $16 per day. The break-even period would be around 635 days nearly 2 years (21.5 * 473 / 16).

The high cost of these devices will likely exclude many individual investors, making Bitcoin mining more of a game for institutions. For institutional investors, waiting 2-3 years to achieve returns of 5-10 times the initial investment is a lucrative prospect.

As individual miners shift away from Bitcoin due to these costs, many are turning to Altcoins, such as this year’s popular mining project, Kaspa coin mining. For more details, you can read our in-depth article on this topic.

Today’s article focuses on the latest hydro-cooled miner from Bitmain, the Antminer S21 XP Hyd 473T.

Historical Comparison of Antminer Power Consumption

From the earliest air-cooled S1 miner to the current S21 Pro 234T, power consumption has significantly decreased from 2000 J/T to 15 J/T. The hydro-cooled S9 Hyd saw power consumption drop from 96 J/T to the current S21 Hyd 335T’s 16 J/T.

Advantages and Features of the Antminer S21 XP Hyd 473T

  1. Low Power Consumption and High Computing Density: Setting new industry records.
  2. Strong Regional and Seasonal Adaptability
  3. Low Noise, Dust-proof, Moisture-proof, and Corrosion-proof
  4. Waste Heat Recovery:
    • Internal and external cooling systems are separate with single injection;
    • Low-cost pure water is used for internal replacement.
  5. Three Types of External Cooling Methods:
    • Heat Exchange: 12 J/T, 473T
    • Water Cooling: 12 J/T, 473T
    • Air Cooling: 473T, even in high-temperature, waterless desert areas.

Pricing and Performance

At the Bitmain launch event, the Antminer S21 XP Hyd 473T was priced at $21.5 per TH/s with coupons, bringing the total cost to $10,169 per unit.

According to Bitmain’s internal tests:

These figures await further verification, but they are promising according to Bitmain’s report.

A notable highlight from Bitmain’s release is the Antminer S21 XP IMM 300T 13.5J/T

In overclocking mode, the computing power of this model can reach 380T, 15J/T,you can use official firmware for overclocking, within warranty too.

This is a significant development for miners, as both air-cooled and water-cooled machines generate considerable noise pollution, which is particularly problematic when operating thousands of units. Noise complaints have plagued mining farms, and immersion cooling offers a quieter alternative. Noise levels rank as follows: immersion cooling < water cooling < air cooling.

Previously, miners resorted to modifying air-cooled Antminer S21 200T units into immersion-cooled setups, often resulting in a 30% failure rate. Such modifications also void warranties as per Bitmain’s terms, which do not cover altered or overclocked machines.

Therefore, it is crucial not to self-modify the S21 200T into an immersion-cooled unit to avoid serious damage.
