Leading innovator in Bitcoin mining machines, MicroBT, unveiled its latest series, the WhatsMiner M6XS+, at the Bitcoin 2024 Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. This series includes air-cooled, water-cooled, and immersion-cooled technologies, marking a significant step towards renewable mining solutions.

Overview of the WhatsMiner M6XS+ Series

Dr. Yang Zuoxing, founder and CEO of MicroBT, showcased the air-cooled WhatsMiner M60S+ with a hash rate ranging from 190 to 210 TH/s. Additionally, the water-cooled M63S+ boasts a hash rate of 390 to 450 TH/s, while the immersion-cooled M66S+ offers a hash rate of 280 to 318 TH/s.

Dr. Yang emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable and efficient mining. He believes renewable mining is the future of the industry and is particularly optimistic about solar mining. He predicts that by 2026, the cost of solar mining electricity could drop to around 4 cents per kilowatt-hour, eliminating major development obstacles for the industry. MicroBT has made significant advances in solar mining technology, achieving great success with a 100-kilowatt pilot project.

He also introduced the new WhatsMiner solar mining container system, reiterating the company’s belief in industrial collaboration to develop more solar mining initiatives.

The water-cooled WhatsMiner machines have high outlet temperatures, reaching up to 80℃ (176℉), making them suitable for applications such as agricultural heating, district heating, and grid balancing. The water-cooling technology not only provides an effective cooling solution for mining but also enhances its feasibility in the renewable mining sector.

Detailed Specifications

Here are the detailed specifications of the latest models introduced by Dr. Yang:

  • WhatsMiner M60S+ (Air-Cooled): Hash rate up to 210 TH/s, power efficiency of 17 J/T.
  • WhatsMiner M63S+ (Water-Cooled): Hash rate up to 450 TH/s, power efficiency of 17 J/T, outlet temperature up to 70℃ (158℉).
  • WhatsMiner M64 (Water-Cooled): Hash rate up to 206 TH/s, power efficiency of 19.9 J/T, outlet temperature up to 80℃ (176℉).
  • WhatsMiner M66S+ (Immersion-Cooled): Hash rate up to 318 TH/s, power efficiency of 17 J/T.

Dr. Yang also promised the launch of more products and solutions in the spring of 2025.

Following Dr. Yang’s keynote speech, Wright Wang, MicroBT’s Director of Sales and Marketing, participated in a panel discussion with Ghazaleh Barman from Riot Platforms and Niek Beudeker from Northern Data Group Peak Mining. During the discussion, he noted that Riot has the world’s largest immersion cooling deployment, while Northern Data is deploying the world’s largest water-cooling operation—both heavily reliant on WhatsMiner products.

I compared Bitmain’s new S21 series, released in June, which has hash rates ranging from 270 to 473 TH/s and efficiency ratings between 13.5 and 12.7 J/T. Additionally, just a few days ago, Auradine launched its new Teraflux miner, featuring 3-nanometer (nm) chips and hash rates of 260 to 375 TH/s.

The recent product launches by MicroBT, Bitmain, and Auradine represent not only technological advancements but also a new chapter in the pursuit of innovation. The enhancements in each company’s ASIC mining equipment broaden the horizon, indicating untapped potential and prospects for future transformations. In this moment of vision and ambition, the evolving landscape of Proof-of-Work (PoW) Bitcoin mining opportunities and advancements is highlighted.
